Garden Furniture for an Elegant and Functional Outdoor Living Space
Saturday, June 16th, 2007A few web laced lawn chairs are no longer the norm for garden furniture. Today much more substantial materials like Teak wood or large stones or wrought iron are being used to create elegant and functional furniture that blends into your garden space rather than sticks out. Pieces are designed with beauty in mind as well as usability. Fabrics are soft and lovely, not just waterproof. Some of the more current trends in garden furniture include:
1. Patio bistro sets – small round tables perched high with bar stool height chairs. These are great for casual intimate outdoor dining.
2. Formal Patio dining sets – to add an elegant flair to any outdoor eating event. Use stoneware place settings not paper plates.
3. Garden benches – these are great to place in a bare spot so you can be surrounded by the wonder and beauty of your garden. Enjoy the breeze and the wildlife.
4. Swings and gliders – yes, these are making a huge comeback and will remind you of a time when things were a little slower and easier.
5. Chairs – grape leaf, Adirondack, chaise, and even traditional arm chairs are becoming the standard in outdoor seating. Add in a cocktail table or end table and you are set for some great conversations.
6. Umbrellas and Tarps – set up under trees, above uncovered decks and patios or even in the middle of the yard for a shady oasis.
7. Planter stands – you can display your beloved ivy or a treasured piece of art work.
8. Planting benches – these now include a sink and can be hooked up to the garden hose to give you a wonderful and functional place to tend to your garden from (rather than running back and forth to the garage).
Obviously there are many more ideas and products available for your garden furniture needs. Stop by a few patio shops or visit the nearest home improvement store to get a few more ideas for your backyard. You can coordinate all the furniture for an elegant look or mix and match to go for an eclectic feel. There really isn’t a wrong way to go about it and the practicality of garden furniture is beyond measure (especially after a long day at work or digging in the garden). Besides, having little alcoves and niches to sit down at through out your yard adds to the overall beauty and appeal of the area.
